The School Reading Room

The School Reading Room

Back to school has never been so fun!

Jeannie explains how a local school made the perfect addition to its already flourishing facilities with a new space away from the classroom…

"Simon Griffiths, the head teacher at Lindens Primary School in Sutton Coldfield, saw us at one of our shows and thought that a hut would be perfect as an extra reading room in the school’s beautiful little courtyard.

"With no builders, mess or noise, all we would have to do would be turn up and quietly move the hut into position during lunch break at the beginning of the school term.

"Simon worked alongside his fellow teachers and PTA to raise the necessary funds and they soon obtained the go-ahead and bought a hut!

"The hut has a simple interior, with low benches made for the little ones to sit on at both ends, as well as tables to put books on. We then had seat pads made and found cushions with letters on them that spelled out the school’s name.

"Interactive boards are not just for classrooms; we made space for one above a small cupboard and even put in the sockets with the USB points, ensuring that there were protective covers on the lower sockets to prevent any little fingers playing with them. A smoke alarm and fire extinguisher were fitted as standard- and the hut was ready to go!

"Both the teachers and children were so happy with the finished hut that they are now saving to fund their next one! Simon even offered us a school dinner- we miss those days!”
